    • Mac The Ripper - DVD ripper (generally not as good as Handbrake)

    • NeoOffice 2.1 (try native version of OpenOffice, too)
    • AbiWord
    • Coda - nice web development IDE; CSS editor looks great; includes SSH/FTP management ($80, free demo)
    • CandyBar - change icon themes ($13)
    • Firefox optimized for Mac OS X
    • Witch - makes Ctrl-Tab work better; can switch to any window (instead of app) including minimized windows
    • Butler - tie trigger events (hotkeys, popup menus, abbreviations, etc.) to scripts (AppleScript, enter keystrokes, text snippets, launch apps, etc.)
    • Locomotive - easy install of Rails, with a nice server-runner; also easily install a working RMagick (which is notoriously hard on Mac OS X)
    • RubyCocoa - develop Cocoa (native Mac) apps in Ruby; see this article
    • RapidWeaver - WYSIWYG HTML editor ($49 + $25 Blocks plugin)
    • Xiph QuickTime Components - lets you play/create Ogg Vorbis/Theora in iTunes/iMovie.
    • CocoaMySQL - slick open-source MySQL Database Manager

  1. Install awstats for web and email stats on log files.
